When it’s time to visit our grandparents, most of us look forward to our grandmother’s homemade dishes, right? The yummy, preservative-free dishes made from natural ingredients are sure to be rich in flavor and will only leave you feeling full and satisfied, unlike some of the fast food dishes that will make you feel ill from all the preservatives. HNGGGH! Just thinking about it will make you want to gobble up your favorite dish that you rarely see during family gatherings and special occasions! o(≧∇≦o) OH wait, are you craving now? Are you thinking about some of your favorite “real” homemade Filipino food? Well, fear not my friend! Because last week, I was invited to visit MARIQ, a really cozy place that offers yummy Filipino dishes! ヽ( ･∀･)ﾉ
MARIQ Café + Restaurant is a fresh, casual and modern Filipino dining restaurant that offers the best dishes of Marikina City. When we got there, we were greeted right away. Their restaurant has a homey yet elegant ambience.
While we are waiting for the other bloggers to come, they served us some sliced banana loaf with their house blend iced tea. The banana loaf is really good! It’s thick and topped with crushed nuts (…cashews?). The iced tea has a surprising fruity taste and nope, it’s not just lemon. It’s made from brewed black tea, lemon cucumber juice and grenadine syrup.
When we were about to finish erasing the traces of the scrumptious snacks, the operations manager, Cindy, started with the introductions and shared a lot about Mariq and the dishes that they’ve had served. So, without further ado, let’s start with the awesome dishes from Mariq!
Wee! I love shrimp! I really like the vegetables in this dish because you can see the beautiful colors of the vegetables. It’s very tasty and not overcooked.
Look at those lovely green color! It looks sooo fresh! Everyone said that it’s really good~! (I’m not a fan of bitter gourd hehe)
Yes, it’s beef! YIPEE! This is one of my favorites at Mariq! The kare kare’s rich and thick peanut sauce is so good! Aside from its amazing taste, the beef is soft and the veggies are not mushy.
O-M-G. This crab aligue rice can be eaten just the way it is! You don’t really need another viand to go with this, but goes really well with their other dishes too XD. I imagined myself eating a bowl of it while watching movies.
Okay, when I first saw this one, I thought it’s just a regular egg-based dish… but I was wrong haha! It’s actually what most people call “Embutido” or “Meatloaf” and is one of Marikina’s specialty (Hamonado and Pininyahang manok). It has vegetables, hard boiled egg and it’s so soft! It melts in your mouth and it’s full of flavor! Also, if you are wondering why is it called Everlasting, they say it’s because it can last for days after you refrigerate it once.
Hamonado is the “Filipino Ham”. It’s a sweetened pork dish with a hint of sour flavor due to the pineapple. I only see this dish during fiestas and I must say that Mariq’s hamonado is really good! The taste is very similar to my grand mother’s hamonado!
This dish has a yummy, creamy sauce that is made from coconut milk and pineapple. The sweetness of the pineapple goes well with the coconut milk making the chicken really tasty!
PESTO!! I LIKE PESTO!!! Their pesto is made with basil, moringa leaves and our very own superfood, malunggay. It is served with grilled chicken slices.
We’re now at my favorite shot! This dish has been carefully infused with lemongrass, ginger and garlic. Baked for three hours then aired overnight, and then baked again for another two hours. I’m not fond of eating pork but this one is realllllly tasty and tender! It also has a flavorful, crunchy skin~
Mmmmm! Let’s now move to my favorite part, the dessert! They have awesome cakes and I love them all! HNGGGH! You’ll be surprised at their cakes because it’s not the usual flavors that you see from cake shops. Every cake has a distinct flavor and definitely a must try!! They had us try their Halo halo cake, Quezo de Bola Cheesecake, Chocolate cake and Langka Sansrival.
This is my favorite! The top layer is sweet leche flan and the sponge cake is fresh ube flavor with a layer of kaong and rice crispies.
Another favorite. Say ‘Cheese!’? hehe! You’ll really feel the holidays in advance while eating this!~
…And that’s all! YAY! So many foooood! I hope everyone enjoyed!
